Data growth is contributing to global warming!

I personally had not considered the link between the growth of data and global warming, but a white paper I was sent written by Zettapoint and Oracle ‘Unlocking the Potential of Information Lifecycle Management: Usage-based Data Classification for Oracle Databases’ makes the link between the unrelenting growth of data and global warming.
It goes something like this:
With the growth of data comes a growth of storage, and hence growing use of natural resources to build, house and cool the hardware, and to generate the electricity to power the hardware and cooling systems!
The paper should be an interesting read for anyone wanting to learn more about Information Life-Cycle Management (ILM), the business case and what's involved.... And for anyone charged with architecting, delivering and managing ILM, Zettapoint and Oracle may have just what you are looking for… "By automatically determining which data is the most valuable to the organization (and which data is unused), IT can optimize database operations and storage strategies in order to increase performance, reduce costs and increase the business value of the database" - Job done!
