This killer poses one of the most serious threats imaginable to continued corporate health

For those who may be interested, Daquam Solutions (DAta QUAlity Management Solutions) was my first Ltd company. I'd taken voluntary redundancy from Mercury Communications and following on from my successes there (set up the first Data Quality Management team - part of the Network Resource Management Team in Warrington) I decided to take my experience to the masses. The rest as they say is history... :-)

The reason for this walk down memory lane was that having been dragged to every interview since, my one and only copy of the September 1995 copy of Business Age was starting to look a little tired and thought it time I digitised it. The relevance of the this particular magazine is that I/Daquam took a full page colour advertisement to drum up business offering data quality baseline assessments!

If you have read this far, you may be interested in the OCR of the text below. You can see the scanned advert here.

On reflection, I'd add the 'trusted' dimension, but other than that, it still seems as relevant today as it did then!

DATA - THE BUSINESS ASSET
• Accurate
• Complete
• Consistent
• Timely
• Relevant

DATA - THE BUSINESS LIABILITY
• Inaccurate
• Inconsistent
• Late
• Incomplete
• Missing

I'd like to warn you about a deadly virus which is spreading like wildfire throughout many organisations - including yours

It's insidious, invasive - and largely undetectable using normal methods of detection. In fact, until quite recently very few people outside a small circle of experts were able to track it down. In the absence of effective countermeasures, however, this killer poses one of the most serious threats imaginable to continued corporate health.

I'm talking about a highly contagious condition which could be costing the equivalent of up to 10 per cent of operating revenue each year in wasted time, increased effort and dramatically reduced efficiency.

But what is this menace? And where does it come from?

The virus I'm talking about is inaccurate, incomplete, inconsistent, missing or late data - collected, stored and used throughout your organisation. Data which can no longer be relied upon to do its job.

An inevitable product of the increasing reliance we all place on computers, very few organisations have done much to address this Issue.

Data is a corporate asset - To protect your data and ensure it is Accurate, Complete, Consistent, Relevant and Timely, you should be managing data 'by fact' not 'gut feel' - But action is essential.

Data Quality Measurement will give you the facts with which to manage your data and the processes that create it.

From a corporate standpoint, quality should be an integral part of everything you do. And the quality of your data should be no exception.

Special Offer: Daquam Solutions is offering those readers of Business Age that want to find out how good? or how bad? their data is, a 25% discount of their normal daily rate for a Baseline Data Quality Audit. The offer is available September to November. For further details phone or FAX Daquam Solutions today.
