Everyone laughed at Noah when he built his ark before the rains came, but he knew he was working on trusted information...

As we continue to battle with the effects of increasing compliance requirements, a looming global economic slowdown, growing competition and fickle customers, is your organisation working on trusted information? Do you laugh at those who instead of just maximising profits (and their bonuses) today, are starting to allocate Board level accountability and the resources necessary to fundamentally change the way on in which they manage and exploit their data and information assets?

It's a fact that many Blue Chips:
• Have more resources, processes, and governance accountabilities, for managing staff canteens, coffee bars and vending machines, than they do for managing, protecting and exploiting their data and information assets
• Still believe data management and information exploitation is the responsibility of the IT world
• Tackle data quality and information issues as tactical challenges, and use tried, tested and proven to fail fire-fighting approaches. E.g. do data clean-up after a failed data migration project
• Still take a silo view – Data quality issues in the data warehouse are nothing to do with source systems
• Are organised and have cultures, measures and reward systems, which effectively act as blockers to the necessary maturing processes of the organisation

Organisations today have a choice - 'Innovate, Dominate or Die' (Obeng). I don’t see how you can Innovate or Dominate without having trusted, accurate, consistent, complete, relevant and timely information.

Let’s hope you have not left it too late before ‘the rain comes tumbling down’ :-)
